Fathers Walking Their Children To School Day- “Walking Together to a Brighter Future”

The Reentry Network For Returning Citizens is planning a very special day in the nation’s capitol. We are organizing, as we speak, a day when fathers, (many of whom are reentrants) will walk their children to school. This is part of our Family Reunification Campaign. It is imperative that fathers are in their children’s lives and we want to do our part to help facilitate that. We are targeting different public housing communities in wards 7 and 8 initially. Our first neighborhood will be the Barry Farms community in ward 8 and we are looking at Kennilworth Avenue in ward 7 for the next big day! This will be ongoing during the school year so stay tuned for updates as we encourage the dads in the reentry community as well as the general community to walk with their children “together to a brighter future!”

Voter Registration!

ALERT: Ward 8 Voter Registration

We started our voter registration drive on Friday, August 5, 2011. We had a great time in Ward 8 as we registered young and old. They came eagerly, timidly, and even in wheelchairs and we loved talking, joking around, and having a great time. We reaffirmed what we already knew: That Ward 8 votes and is eager to make its voice heard come election time. We let many returning citizens know that they have the right to vote and they registered and plan to exercise that right! Watch for us in Ward 8, Ward 7, and throughout our nation’s capitol.
